The Palace Itself

It is the only major city palace that Palladio saw completed. The façade uses superimposed classical orders; at the entrance, an atrium with four Ionic columns solves both structural and compositional challenges and leads into the loggia courtyard. Look closely at ceilings, stuccoes, and 17th-century frescoes: a true lesson in Palladian engineering and symmetry.

The Exhibition Rooms

The museum is designed to explain Palladio in a clear and engaging way through physical and digital models, photographs, videos, and drawings.

Not to be missed: the Book Room (the history of The Four Books of Architecture and the Rotonda) and the Stone Room (how Palladio built “with stone and without”).

Other stops include the Silk Room and the Venice Room, focusing on material culture and Venetian contexts.

Architectural Models

Large wooden models of the villas, the Basilica Palladiana, and the Teatro Olimpico help visitors understand spaces, proportions, and construction solutions. Ideal for an immediate reading even for non-experts.

Frescoes & Stucco Work

Historic rooms feature decorative cycles with frescoes attributed to Battista Zelotti, Anselmo Canera, and Andrea Vicentino, and stuccoes by Lorenzo and Agostino Rubini. The representative rooms on the piano nobile are unmissable.

Current Focus: “Secret Tiepolo”

Seven frescoes by Giandomenico Tiepolo have arrived on long-term loan and are the centerpiece of a dedicated display between the entrance and the introductory corridor. Check on site whether the exhibition/display is ongoing during your visit.
